Notes: Vera was orphaned as a child and grew up in the Mexico Orphan's Home in Miami County. She was later adopted by Pleasant and Ruth Ward (no relation to her husband Lewis) who changed her name from Vera Lillian Clear to Vera Marie Ward.
 
 
Obituary: Delphi - Mrs. Vera Marie Ward, 76, of 6428 N. County Road 300 E., West Lafayette, formerly of Radnor, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday in Indiana Veterans Home. She had been ill 7 ½ years and a resident of the home for seven years. She was born at Peru and was a graduate of Cutler High School. She had been employed at ALCOA, Flora Furniture Factory, Purdue University and in 1966 retired from the Veterans Home. In 1924 she was married at Bringhurst, to Lewis A. Ward. He died in 1958. Mrs. Ward was a member of Battle Ground United Methodist Church and Delphi American Legion Auxiliary where she was a Gold Star Mother. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Francis (Rozella) Pearson of West Lafayette and Mrs. Morris (Juanita) Benefiel of Radnor. - Lafayette Journal & Courier, Friday, April 30, 1982

Notes: Served in the Army from 1913 until 1920, in Mexico during the Mexican Uprising and in Europe during WWI.

Married first wife Rosa Black on August 20, 1919. She died in February 1920

 
Obituary: Radnor, Indiana: Lewis Alva Ward, 66, of Radnor, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, where he was a patient two hours. He had been in failing health five years with a heart ailment. Born at Wolcott, he was an inspector at the aluminum plant at Lafayette for 16 years and had been on sick leave since last November. He was a veteran of World war I and was in the service two years and was a member of the Delphi American Legion. Surviving with the widow, Mrs. Vera M. Ward, are two daughters, Mrs. Rosella Pearson of Lafayette and Mrs. Juanita Benefiel of Radnor; two brothers, Robert E. of Delphi and Marion of Rossville, and five sisters, Mrs. Maude James of Clymers, Mrs. Daisy Holliday of Yukon, Okla., Mrs. Ruby Morris of Frankfort and Mrs. Eleanor Oaks and Mrs. Alice Clem of Cutler. - Lafayette Journal & Courier, Thursday, June 26, 1958

Notes: Richard served in the US Army during WWII. He was in Germany on November 8, 1944 when he was reported Missing in Action. Many months later his family received a telegram informing them that Richard had been killed in action. His remains were never recovered but a memorial to him stands in Rossville Cemetery.
