• Born in 1844 in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio.
• He enlisted in Company C, 75th Infantry Regiment Ohio on October 19, 1861.
• Died of disease while serving in Company C, 75th Infantry Regiment Ohio on Dec. 26, 1862.


His mother, Annie Jones-Clear, applied for his Pension in November of 1882. The Application number was #295243 or #298243, and the certificate number was #220261. (View Slip)

Note: William Henry Clear had said his brother Clarence was stabbed by an Indian in the Army. Without corroborating evidence, there's no way to know if this is accurate. However, another relative, Elias Clear, was in the Union Army and was stabbed to death while home on leave - not by an Indian, but rather by a Southern sympathizer.
