Notes: MILITARY BIO: Dr. Commander Stephen Rogers von Hitritz enlisted in the Navy in August 1972 after two years of junior college. After initial Quartermaster rate training and Submarine School, he spent two years aboard USS SARGO (SSN-583) and one year aboard USS ASPRO (SSN-648). While aboard ASPRO he was selected to participate in the NESEP (Navy Enlisted Scientific Education) program. Commander von Hitritz was graduated from the University of Utah in December 1978 with a degree in Meteorology. Following Surface Warfare Officer's School, he spent 3 years aboard USS ESTEEM (MSO-438), as Supply Officer, Operations Officer and finally as Executive Officer. Selected for a follow-on sea tour as CIC Officer aboard USS DUNCAN (FFG-10), he was then chosen to transfer to the Supply Corps in May 1981. After Basic Supply Corps qualification, he was transferred to PCU MICHIGAN (SSBN-727) as prospective Supply Officer for the Gold crew. He spent three years aboard USS MICHIGAN, which included Sea Trials and three deterrent patrols and was chosen to attend the Naval Postgraduate School. He was graduated with a Master's degree in Logistics Management. He reported to the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia in July 1986 as Staff Logistics Analysis Officer. In 1987, recognizing a manpower shortage in the DLA Operations Research Office (DORO), he applied for and was accepted for transfer to that office. He spent 3 years at DORO in Transportation and Procurement Analysis and while there fulfilled the requirements for a Doctorate in Business Management from LaSalle University, and was granted a Ph.D. in 1990. The Navy SEABEES were Commander von Hitritz' next duty station. While the Logistics Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FIVE, home ported in Port Hueneme, California, he was one of the first naval officers on the ground in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield/Storm. He spent nine months in the Saudi Arabia and Kuwait operating area. After Desert Storm and the SEABEES, Commander von Hitritz was selected to be transferred to the Naval Supply Systems Command in Arlington, Virginia. While at NAVSUPSYSCOM, he developed the first Management Information System for the command. In October 1994, he was transferred to the SEAWOLF Program Office as Material Support Branch Head. As a result of reorganization and promotion, he was selected to become Deputy Director of Logistics, Submarine Directorate, Naval Sea Systems Command in September 1995. In December 1996, he reported aboard his current duty station, DLA Operations Research Office, in Richmond, VA. As a result of reorganization he was named Team Chief in June 1997 of the Corporate Administration and Acquisition Analysis Team, DORRA (DLA Operations Research and Resource Analysis Office). In July 1998, he was named Chief of the Logistics Business Process Reengineering Team, DORRA. He retired from the Navy on January 1, 2001. He was employed by Dynamics Research Corporation of Andover, Massachusetts until January 2002 at which time he retired again. He is now involved in community service at church and school and is writing genealogy books. Commander von Hitritz has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star, Joint Meritorius Unit Commendation, Navy "E" Ribbon with third Battle "E", Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Southwest Asia Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and one FMF device, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Kuwait, as will as Rifle and Pistol Efficiency Ribbons. He is qualified to wear the following insignias: SEABEE Warfare Officer, Submarine Warfare Officer (Supply), Surface Warfare Officer (Line), Enlisted Submarine Warfare and FBM Deterrent Patrol with 3 stars. He is a Joint Specialist and a member of the Acquisition Professional Community.
